About the Scholarship--The Jim Marcelynas RN 146 Scholarship was created to honor the life of Jim Marcelynas.  The scholarship will be awarded through the Dollars for Scholars in Wethersfield, CT.  Jim inspired many people both personally and professionally and we hope that this scholarship will inspire others to be passionate about medicine and carry on Jim’s great legacy.

The recipient must be a graduating senior from Wethersfield High School and must be pursuing a career in the medical field.  Thanks to all the contributions we have been able to donate to Dollars for Scholars $5,000 in 2020 and $3,000 in 2019.

Jim Marcelynas was a man with a great passion for emergency medicine.  He was just 16 when he became an emergency medical technician (EMT) for Wolcott Volunteer Ambulance.  And there was no looking back from there. He became a paramedic while completing nursing school and held a variety of nursing positions until he became a flight nurse with Lifestar (RN146).  After 10 years with Lifestar, two years as Chief Flight nurse, he returned to school and became a nurse anesthetist. Jim loved medicine and the science behind it, never satisfied until he found the answer to a problem.  His hobbies included skiing, woodworking, beer tasting, fishing, watching the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, vacationing in Disney and Charlestown Beach, RI, and listening to Dave Matthews. (And while Jim enjoyed golfing, let’s just say it wasn’t his forte.)  Jim was tragically killed in a freak accident on March 2, 2017. He is survived by his wife, Elda, and two children, Giulia and James, who continue to honor Jim every day- “Celebrate we will.”
